It was an unforgettable experience in my life to participate 8th Uni Apro/ JPGU (Japanese Postal Group Union) Joint English Seminar - 2019, as the resource person from Sri Lanka. The seminar was took place from 26 - 27 January 2019 in Japan. Including me three resource persons were invited to the seminar by President of JPGU, Bro. Mitsugi Masuda.

Bro. Lin Yi – Hung from Chunghwa Post (Deputy Director of International Affairs Department, CPWU) and Bro. Muhammad Nizam Hadzir from POS Malaysia (Deputy General Secretary of UPCW) were the other resource persons.

UNI Making it happen in Liverpool 5th UNI World Congress 2018 UNI World Women’s Conference 2018

5th UNI World Congresstook place from 17June 2018 at ACC Liverpool was concluded successfully on 20 June 2018.Prominent personalities were invited as guest speakers such as Jeremy Corbin (Leader of Labour Party), Houcine Abassi (Tunisian Nobel Peace Prize Winner), Guy Ryder (Director General of the ILO) plus many more graced the opening of the Congress on 17 June 2018. The UNI World Congress witnessed the retirement of Brother Philip Jennings who served as the General Secretary of UNI Global Union for over 40 years, the election of Sister Christy Hoffman as the new General Secretary and election of Brother Ruben Cortina as the President.

UNI SLAC Welcomes, UNI APRO President Brother Minao Noda

Brother Minao Noda led a delegation to Sri Lanka in the first week of November 2017. In his capacity as the President of UNI Apro ICTS, Bro Noda was keen to learn the functioning of trade unions in the telecommunication industry is Sri Lanka. UNI ICTS is keen to support employees in the emerging mobile and digital industries securing decent work at their workplaces. UNI Apro ICTS sector has already formed a trade union alliance in the Axiata group a leading communication provider in the region. The delegation also had meetings with the members of Media Pro-Tech, and other union activists in Sri Lanka, regarding organizing Axiata members to expand the Axiata Global Alliance to Sri Lanka.

JPGU Kanto-UNI SLAC Youth Exchange Program

JPGU Kanto-UNI SLAC Youth exchange program was held in last 21st of April 2018 at the Galadari hotel, Colombo Sri Lanka. According to the participants’ perception it was an amazing experience.

Experiencing new cultures and sharing ideas is a good motivation to the new blood. Youth shows the creativity of the young minds. UNI SLAC youth is a good example for that. UNI SLAC Youth team has a good vision. They are very energetic with new challenges. They plan the program with good guidance of brother Jayasri Priyalal ,Chairman UNIAPRO-JPGU Kanto scholarship scheme and the sister Norika Warnasuriya UNI APRO Youth President.

As a Sri Lankan, I was privileged to take part in 18th UNI APRO Women’s Committee Meeting and witness this joint sector conference with three more UNI SLAC colleagues from our finance Sector.

18th UNI APRO Women’s Committee Meeting took place in Jakarta, Indonesia on 20 November 2017. The committee meeting was chaired by Sister MirahSumirat of ASPEK Indonesia with the participation of about forty five (45) strong women leaders in the UNI APRO Region. During the meeting the committee members shared their country reports about the women’s activities in their own countries, own unions, review of the programs concluded in 2016-2017, updates about Indonesian labor Movement etc.
