Idea
After the appointment of new committee members for the UNI SLAC Youth Committee, some of them have got opportunity to take part in UNI APRO Youth Conference and workshop which was held in Malaysia, November 2018. Having international exposure and gathering new knowledge and experiences they came back to Sri Lanka with a basic idea of conducting a training program for the newly appointed committee members. To attain that intention, they came up with the idea of organizing a leadership development program which enable them to share what they have experienced and to empower others to seek future responsibilities and prepare them for the future positions.

The 1^st ASEAN Services Employees Trade Union Council (ASETUC) organized as a joint effort of the three Global Union Federations (GUFs) namely UNI Global Asia Pacific Regional Office (UNI Apro), Building and Wood Workers International Asia Pacific (BWI AP) and Public Services International Asia Pacific (PSI AP) was held on 11-12 August 2018 under the theme “The New Generation of Trade Unionists”. More than Eighty Youth Participants from UNI APRO, BWI-AP and PSI-AP took part in this event in celebration of the International Youth Day last 12 August 2018. The Regional Secretaries of UNI Apro, Brother Christopher Ng, BWI-AP, BrotherApolinar Tolentino and PSI-AP, Sister Kate Lappin were present at the Youth Summit.

I am Mihiri Hapuarachchi member of UNI SLAC Youth Committee, Member of NPTWU representing Postal sector.

As a young female trade union activist, I was privileged to attend UNI Apro Young Women Leaders Workshop, 13th UNI Apro Youth Committee Meeting and 5^th UNI Apro Post and logistic conference which was held at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 22^nd to 27^th August 2017.  It was a great experience for me. Having participated in the Young Women Leaders Workshop, an opportunity was extended to all of us by UN APRO to observe the UNI Apro Youth Committee Meeting and the 5^th UNI Apro Post & Logistic Sector Conference.

I was delighted to witness the election of SisterNorikaWarnasuriya, secretary of UNI SLAC Youth from NPTWU, Sri Lanka as the Pacific UNI Apro Youth president representing South Asia to serve the UNI Apro in Asia.

UNI SLAC Youth opened a new chapter on 5th January 2016 at union of post telecommunication officers’ head office Colombo. That special moment was launched UNI SLAC Youth committee. Purpose of this event was “To join new blood to the UNI SLAC Youth for the better future”.
